Discharge of sewage in Sal to be probed

PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar has promised to inquire into allegations against PWD officials for discharging sewage waste from the treatment plant into river Sal, even as he took a dig at the Congress party for not taking up road projects worth hundreds of crores.

 “I am certain that none of my engineers are involved in discharging sewage waste in Sal. But since the allegations have been brought to my notice, I can assure you that an inquiry will be ordered into the allegations,” Sudin told the media.He said the PWD is constructing a state of the art 20 MLD C-Tech sewage treatment plant at Sirvodem, which will tackle the sewage problem faced by Margao and neighbouring villages. “The C-Tech plant will be complete and commissioned by December,” he said, while promising action against the government agencies if they are involved in discharging sewage in the river. On the failure of the Congress party to tender road works, including the Margao bypass, Canacona bypass, the Verna missing links and other works, the PWD Minister demanded an explanation from the Congress for not taking up the works during its tenure.
