The rest of the kiosk owners, who were relying on approval of the rehabilitation plan proposed by St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes, knocked the doors of the MLA on Monday even as they raised apprehension on whether their rehabilitation would ever see the light of day.
Speaking to reporters, Domnic Pereira said the plan was in process for rehabilitation of all the affected persons, including the five Deendayal kiosk owners.
“But, the latest happenings has put this plan in jeopardy due to which we have come here to know our fate,” Pereira added.
He also said if the Deendayal kiosk owners were not demolished, then unnecessary expenditure could have been avoided which is being borne by the government.
“Also, the government should understand that there were not only five kiosk owners but a total of 38 vendors,” Pereira said and sought justice for them.
He also came down heavily on the government for failing to inform the HC that they have plan to rehabilitate all the vendors and kiosk owners, including the five Deendayal kiosk owners
“Either, there was a miscommunication or there is a deliberate attempt not to rehabilitate us,” he opined.
However, Santa Cruz Panch Prasad Naik raised suspicion whether their rehabilitation will ever see the light of day.
“Now, they will have to rework the rehabilitation plan which will take more time. Later, the code will come into effect due to the forthcoming Assembly elections,” he opined and raised apprehension that the rehabilitation plan will be put in the backburner.
St Cruz MLA’s plan in jeopardy
OLD GOA: Even as the Deendayal kiosk owners have been rehabilitated in the same place where the fruit vendors were earlier relocated, it has put the plan of St Cruz MLA Tony Fernandes to rehabilitate all the affected vendors.
In the plan prepared by the MLA and which was awaiting approval from the government, the entire stretch of 80 metres was to be used for constructing 2x2 mtr cubicles so that all the 38 affected persons were accommodated.
However, the government action to rehabilitate the five Deendayal kiosk owners has meant that of the 80 meters, 20 meters is already been used.
Now, only 60 meters remain and in that space 33 cubicles have to be built to accommodate the rest of the kiosk owners and fruit vendors.
When questioned about the same, MLA Tony Fernandes said a good plan was prepared by PWD’s chief architect to accommodate all the 38 affected persons. “It had facility for toilet and garbage,” he stated.
“But now, fresh adjustments will have to be done in the plan,” Fernandes stated.
