BJP’s always-at-loggerhead MLAs come together to inaugurate panchayat facility

VASCO
With Panchayats Minster Mauvin Godinho and Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha sparring in public in the recent past, it came as a surprise to find both BJP legislators jointly inaugurating the Sancoale panchayat’s Material Recovery Facility (MRF) at Zuarinagar on Monday morning.

Godinho and Saldanha inaugurated the MRF unit in the presence of Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar and other panch members.

Later speaking to reporters, Godinho said the government had been trying very hard to solve garbage issues in the State.

“The MRF at Sancoale will have a 3 TPD plant to handle wet waste. We will also have an MRF unit with a 5 TPD facility at Chicalim panchayat to handle airport garbage as well,” said Godinho.

Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha said every Panchayat has been directed to have an MRF under the Swaccha Bharat Mission.

“This is the second MRF in my constituency after Cortalim panchayat. Dry waste will be baled and it will also generate revenue for the panchayat,” said Saldanha.

Sancoale Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar said the 3 TPD plant machinery to handle wet garbage had already arrived at the State border.

“We will appoint a supervisor to look into issues of garbage collection or open dumping of garbage and the maintenance of MRF facility. We also want to clear dark spots in the village,”

“The 3 TPD plant machinery was supposed to arrive here on Monday, but it has been held up at the border and once we have it installed, we can then tackle wet waste as well,” said Borkar.
