Police indiscipline will not be tolerated: CM

Insisting he would not tolerate indiscipline in the police department, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said 15 police personnel have been suspended in the last two months.

Sawant was speaking after inaugurating the Tourist Police Service and Information Centre at Canbolin on Monday, on the occasion of World Tourism Day.

“The government wants Goans to get proper business from tourism. The police have been given training how to speak skilfully and kindly with tourists. Police personnel will be appointed on the main beaches in North and South Goa. They will also be given new uniforms soon,” said Sawant.

Ports Minister Michael Lobo said there has been a widening gap between tourists and police of late.

“We want Goa to be known as a pro-tourism state and hence, we request police to have a gentle approach in their behaviour with tourists. Do not stop their vehicles for no reason,” said Lobo.

DGP Mukesh Kumar Mina said similar centres would be set up elsewhere in the State.

Others present at the meeting included police officials, Secretary (Health) J Ashok Kumar, Candolim Sarpanch Blase Fernandes, Calangute Sarpanch Shawn Martins and ZP member Dattaprasad Dabholkar.
