Denouncing BJP as being an “anti-Bahujan private limited company”, former BJP leader and ex-minister Ramesh Tawadkar has declared his candidature for the 2019 Lok Sabha with a sole aim of wresting the seat from South Goa’s BJP MP Narendra Savoikar.
Addressing his first of a series of public meetings in South Goa late Sunday evening at Gaondongrim, Tawadkar hit out at the BJP for its reprehensible treatment towards him.
“I was picked up by BJP for my social work, it was my accidental entry into politics, and when I began delivering to the people, jealousy within the BJP crept in. Some leaders were unable to digest my rising capabilities to serve people and abruptly stopped me from representing the party in the 2017 assembly polls,” said Tawadkar.
“The BJP is an anti-Bahujan private limited company in Goa being run by just four persons who, time and again, checkmate and suppress the rise and success of Bahujan leaders.”
“As a politician, I cannot remain silent and since my workers have demanded I go ahead and continue serving people, I have decided to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and win it by defeating BJP MP Narendra Savoikar. This is my announcement here in the presence of my 500-strong well-wishers,” said Tawadkar, to the approval of the gathering.
Incidentally, Tawadkar raked up many instances to accuse BJP of its arrogant style of functioning and harassment of the Bahujan Samaj by highlighting the Balli agitation, reopening of an insignificant 2007 case in 2016, the Income Tax raid, etc.
“Some BJP leaders played major roles in every incident, ignoring the fact that the Bahujan Samaj, particularly 75-80% of ST community, had strongly stood with BJP in the 2012 assembly as well as the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, particularly in South Goa.”
Others addressing the meeting included former Gaondongrim sarpanchas Ashok Velip, Barkello Gaonkar and Puno Gaonkar.
According to the speakers, development works in Canacona had been initiated by Tawadkar and many of those works going on at snail’s pace.
“Because of Tawadkar as agriculture minister, our state got national awards for the very first time and agriculture production was increased manifold. Now, various schemes launched by Tawadkar in the tribal welfare department havebeen subdued, while agriculture schemes have become almost dormant,” said Ashok Velip.
Barkello Gaonkar said they would be strongly behind Tawadkar in his decision to contest the Lok Sabha polls.
“We will back him and work tirelessly for his success. Let Tawadkar decide the party or we are prepared to back him as an independent candidate we well,” he said.
