Officials of the Food and Drugs Administration on Monday seized sweets and other food items worth around Rs 2 lakh after they were found to be either expired or stored in unhygienic conditions.

The trader has also been fined Rs 25,000 for violating food safety norms.

A raid carried out by Designated Officer (South Goa) Sanjyot Kudalkar, along with Food Safety Officers Madhav Kavlekar, Amardeep Priolkar, and Atmaram Vinod Naik, revealed that the trader was selling sweets mainly targeted at children.

Kudalkar said some of the items were found to be expired at the storage facility. “The goods were kept in unhygienic conditions. We have seized them and they will be destroyed at a designated site,” she said.
