The hustle and bustle went missing was completely missing as municipal  market inspectors along with a gang of workers geared to clamp down on illegal vending activity following a fiat from the Municipal  Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesai.
The municipal officials, however, encountered protests along the Sadekar lane when a couple of businessman claimed that the drive was carried out without any intimation.
While dozens of vendors are seen at the Communidade square every day to sell readymade garments, they were conspicuous by their absence on Tuesday evening.
The raiding team led by market inspector Anil Shirodkar had to face protests from Mohammed Iqbal and others when they questioned the team for removing the garments displayed on the wall. Shirodkar, however, told Iqbal and others that the drive has been initiated as per the orders of the Municipal Chief Officer, adding that they can get their grievances resolved by calling on the municipal authorities on Wednesday.
The raiding team later took a round of the market, but could not go all out against the encroachments for want of a vehicle.
