GF wants pride of place for Sequeira and Opinion Poll

PANAJI: Goa Forward Party (GFP) has demanded installation of statue of the Father of Opinion Poll Dr Jack de Sequeira's statue at the State Legislative Assembly Complex, Porvorim. Additionally, GFP has also demanded that history of Opinion Poll becomes a part of the school curriculum and the modern Goan history should be right up to Goa getting statehood.
To celebrate Goa's Opinion Poll, GFP has also organised ‘Asmitai Zagor', a public meeting at Lohia Maidan, Margao on January 16.
Addressing a press conference, GFP President Vijai Sardesai said, "Many Goans are of the opinion that the recognition which should have been given to the father of the Opinion Poll Dr Jack Sequeira and other Opinion Polls stalwarts has not been given. Aiming at giving this recognition, we want to make a beginning from this Opinion Poll. As a political party we want to hold a public meeting at Lohia Maidan, Margao aiming at creating awareness on this subject. We will call it Asmitai Zagor and celebrate it."
Stating that the history of Goa does not end with its liberation, Sardesai said, "The history which we have learnt shows that modern Goan history ends with the liberation of Goa. This is not the right concept. According to me, the modern Goan history goes right upto Goa getting statehood and Konkani becoming the official language of the State. Goa's Opinion Poll is the only referendum in Modern Indian history."
"It is important that the history of Goa is documented properly. It is in my mind that we have a liberation memorial for the State. We will document Goa's history right up to Goa getting the Statehood. The right place for this would be Adil Shah's Palace or Cabo but in this year there will certainly be a liberation memorial which will be done by the archives and archaeology department," he said.
