The first national conference of controllers of weights and measures will be held on Saturday at a city hotel, where a proposal to introduce ‘QR Codes’ for instruments will be deliberated.
CM Pramod Sawant, Union Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, Minister for Weights and Measures Digambar Kamat and Union Secretary Nidhi Khare will attend the inaugural session of the conference.
Weights and Measures Controllers from across the country are expected to attend the conference, where digitisation of departmental services, new rules, as well as uniformity in practices of weights and measures departments across the country will be discussed.
Kamat, who addressed the media along with Secretary Sanjeev Gadkar and Weights and Measures Controller Arun Panchwadkar, said it is the first such national conference to be held, which will focus on business facilitation as well as digitisation.
“The proposal is to bring uniformity in weights and measures rules for each State, set up help desks for services, and enable auto-renewal of licences,” Panchwadkar said.
“Gold prices are rising. Digitisation will enable measuring the yellow metal in quantities as minuscule as one milligram,” Panchwadkar added.
