Goa's AG is Additional SG of India

Goa’s Advocate General Atmaram Nadkarni has been appointed as Additional Solicitor General of the Government of India and is expected to resign as the State’s Advocate General either over the weekend or next week.

PANAJI:

“I am still in Delhi. I will return to Goa only on Friday after which I will tender my resignation. Until then I and still Goa’s AG,” Nadkarni said.

As an additional solicitor general Nadkarni said he will not specifically argue cases in any particular ministry even though speculation is rife that Nadkarni will get preference in cases being dealt by the Defence Ministry.

“The role is to represent the Government of India in the Supreme Court and no particular ministry is being assigned,” Nadkarni said.

While Nadkarni himself refused to speculate on who his successor will be, names have already begun to do the rounds including that of senior advocates Nitin Sardesai, Saresh Lotlikar, Sudin Usgaonkar and others.
