Goa University has announced a one-time relaxation in progression rules for the first batch of students enrolled under the CBCS law programme, allowing those with up to five backlog courses to gain admission to the third year of LL.B., B.A. LL.B. and B.Com. LL.B. courses.

The decision follows a protest by the NSUI Goa unit and law students demanding relaxation in the rules, citing difficulties faced by the first CBCS batch.

In a circular issued on July 6 after the Academic Council meeting held on July 1, the University approved the concession under Ordinances OC-81 and OC-82.

Students who have completed Semesters I to IV and have not more than five backlogs across the four semesters combined will be eligible for admission to the third year.

Those awaiting results of Semester IV or repeat examinations can attend third-year classes provisionally. Their admission will be cancelled if they fail to meet the eligibility criteria after results are

declared.

The University said no fees will be collected until eligibility is confirmed. Students and parents will also have to submit an affidavit acknowledging academic requirements.

The relaxation will apply only for third-year admission and not for subsequent years.
