The High Court of Bombay at Goa has directed the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) to decide within a month on the application filed by a government college professor regarding alleged pay disparity.
The Division Bench of Justice A Chandurkar and Justice Nivedita Mehta pronounced the order while disposing of a writ petition filed by Professor Ameeta Amonkar. The court also directed that the petitioner be granted an opportunity for a hearing.
“Considering the fact that the petitioner’s representation is pending before respondent no. 2 (DTE-College Section), it is directed that the same be decided in accordance with law within a period of one month from receiving a copy of this order. An opportunity for hearing shall also be granted to the petitioner. The decision taken be communicated to the petitioner,” the order stated.
Professor Amonkar, attached to the Goa College of Engineering, had approached the court seeking a resolution of the alleged pay disparity. She contended that despite making multiple efforts, including submitting a representation on November 19, 2024, no decision had been taken on her request, which then prompted her to seek the High Court’s intervention.
The court further clarified that if the petitioner is dissatisfied with the decision on her representation, she is at liberty to seek appropriate legal recourse.
