HC takes action against institution in Assagao for illegally housing infants

PANAJI

The Bombay High Court at Goa has taken suo motu cognisance of a letter made by the North Goa Child Welfare Committee (CWC) to Anjuna Police against a child care institution in Assagao for illegally housing infants below the age of two years.

The Bench has initiated a Suo Motu Public Interest Litigation (SMPIL) marking Goa government, concerned departments and the NGO respondents in the matter.

As per the complaint, the child care institution had been housing children even between the age group of two and ten years without the orders of the CWC. The Committee had earlier this month sought the local police to file First Information Report against the institution as its management was caught red handed for unauthorised custody of over two dozen children.

The complainant also questioned where the children were brought from and why they were housed without informing the CWC.
