Inmates of a house at Maina-Socorro had a lucky escape after a tree collapsed on their home on Tuesday morning.
The tree came crashing on the house belonging to Kalidas Wadker and damaged roof and furniture, but none of the inmates were injured.
Kajal Wadker said the tree fell on the room of her daughter, who had left for college just 5 minutes before the incident.
Fire officer from Pilerne fire station P Talanker said they received the information at 7.20 am and he along with his fire personnel rushed to the spot and started cutting the tree and finished the operation by noon.
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte visited the spot, and said a big tragedy was averted as the tree fell in the morning when most of the inmates had gone out.
“I will request Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to provide financial assistance to the Wadker family from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund. I will also urge the Socorro Panchayat to help the Wadker family to restore her house,” said Khaunte.
