After the landmark verdict by Karnataka High Court which held that the hijab is not an essential religious practice of Islam, aggrieved Muslim organisations in Karnataka have called for a statewide bandh on Thursday.
It may be recalled that on Monday, the Karnataka high court had upheld the Karnataka government's order banning the use of any cloth on the campus that could disturb peace, harmony and public order.
Expressing disappointment over the HC ruling, the Ameer-E-Shariat Karnataka, Maulana Sagir Ahmad Khan Rashadi along with other organisations called for statewide bandh on March 17.
Maulana Rasdhadi has also appealed every Muslim in the state to make it successful while adhering to religious practices and has also urged the youth not to resort to sloganeering and maintain peace and harmony during the day-long bandh.
