Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal arrived on Friday evening on a three-day visit to the State, signalling an intensification of the party’s organisational and political activities in the State.
Kejriwal was welcomed on arrival at Dabolim Airport by AAP leaders, workers and supporters, who greeted him with slogans and party flags. Senior party functionaries were present to receive him as he began his schedule in the State.
Kejriwal’s visit is expected to focus on strengthening the party’s organisation and engaging with leaders and volunteers.
Speaking to reporters at the airport, Kejriwal said, “I am on a three-day visit to Goa. Yesterday, our Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was also here.”
Launching a sharp attack on the ruling BJP, Kejriwal alleged that the party had failed the people of Goa over the last 15 years.
“For the past decade-and-a-half, Goa has had BJP governments which have given only corruption and goondagiri to the people. The people of Goa are deeply unhappy and upset, and this anger is visible through protests across the State,” he said.
Citing ongoing agitations, Kejriwal said people from different regions were fighting for basic issues.
“In Chimbel, people are protesting to protect natural resources. In Pernem, residents are demanding better healthcare facilities. Unfortunately, the government is not listening to them,” he alleged.
Drawing a comparison with AAP-ruled Punjab, Kejriwal said his party had delivered strong governance wherever it had been given an opportunity. He claimed that people in Goa were now looking for an alternative.
“The people of Goa want change. They have high hopes from AAP, just as people in other states had faith in us. We are here to work honestly and give Goa a governance model that truly serves its people,” Kejriwal said.
During his stay, Kejriwal is expected to hold a series of meetings with party leaders, volunteers and local units as AAP looks to strengthen the party and expand its footprint in the State.
