It will help avoid long queues at nearby KRC stations at Margao and Karwar, besides saving time, energy and money.
A communique addressed by KRC, Goa region in-charge Ashim Suleiman to the Association of Businessmen of Canacona (ABC) stated that KRC has agreed to open a public reservation system and halts of certain additional trains at Canacona KRC station, revealed sources in ABC.
As rail commuters travelling from Canacona have increased considerably over the last few years, ABC had urged KRC authorities to start online ticket reservation counter and also approve halts to some of the long distant trains passing through KRC Canacona station.
“This will not only save time and energy of Canacona people, but also help commuters in reducing their travelling costs and expenses,” stated an ABC member.  Presently, KRC Canacona issues tickets to only the ‘alloted seats’ quota for trains making halts at Canacona, while in the case of other trains, people had to either visit the ticket reservation counters at Margao or Karwar.

The trains presently making halts at KRC Canacona are Trivandrum Netravati Express, Mangalore Matsayaganda Express, Mangalore-Margao, Margao-Karwar (all daily), besides Margao-Karwar and Mangalore Demu (six days a week) and Gandhidham-Nagercoil (weekly). There are many other trains like Rajdhani and others passing through Canacona KRC station without making halts.
Confirming the receipt of letter from KRC, ABC, besides thanking MP Narendra Savaikar, has also thanked KRC authorities for responding to people’s wishes and called upon to implement both the facilities to benefit residents and visiting people in Canacona.
Citing commuters are facing difficulties, ABC has now demanded to extend most of the trains leaving Canacona station ordinarily making last halt at Kurla (Mumbai) to extend it till CST.
