Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will be chairing a high-level meeting on Monday to decide the future course of action in the land grabbing investigation being conducted by a special investigation team.
Apart from Sawant, Revenue Minister, Chief Secretary, DGP, Revenue Secretary and the incharge of SIT are expected to attend the meeting, review the progress and decide the future course of action on lands not having any registered owners or owners who have passed away or migrated without doing succession proceedings.
It may be recalled that the accused arrested by SIT, had revealed that they had forged documents of close to 70 properties of which majority of them were of similar nature.
Meanwhile, Sawant reviewed the progress made by SIT in illegal land grabbing/transfer matters on Sunday.
The SIT was formed by the government to investigate cases about land grabbing. Presently, four accused have been arrested including two staffers of the Archives Department.
One Vikrant Balkrishna Shetty was arrested on June 18 who was released on bail on June 24 after 5-day police custody. The second to be arrested was Mohammed Sohail who is in police custody. Diresh Naik and Shivanand Madkaikar are the two others -- staffers of Archives Department -- who have been arrested.
The SIT is also investigating the case in which the complainant is Arjun Shetye Civil-cum-Sub registrar, Mapusa.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the concerned properties had no legal heirs as the owners had either died or migrated.
As per the complaint before SIT, Naik removed ‘Look Registers’ from the department and handed them to the accused to forge documents.
The probe found that several properties had no legal heirs due to death or migration of owners.
