Police have recovered liquor bottles worth around Rs 1.5 lakh in connection with an alleged violent attack, theft and vandalism at a wine shop in Calangute, where liquor and cash collectively valued at nearly Rs 9.65 lakh were allegedly stolen.

According to the Calangute Police, an offence was registered at 1.40 am on Wednesday based on a complaint lodged by Vishav Nath, a resident of Gurdaspur, Punjab.

The complainant alleged that the incident occurred at around on Tuesday evening at Guddu Wine located at Gaurawado, Calangute.

Police said the prime accused, Aditya Hadagalli, along with several of his workers, allegedly trespassed into the wine shop and assaulted the complainant and his cousin, Sikander Malpotra, who was manning the cash counter.

During the incident, the accused allegedly smashed liquor bottles displayed on the shelves, causing damage estimated at around Rs 2.5 lakh.

The complaint further states that Hadagalli allegedly stole about Rs 15,000 from the cash counter before he and his associates loaded liquor bottles of various brands into a tempo and fled. The value of the stolen liquor has been estimated at around Rs 7 lakh.

The accused also allegedly abused the victims in filthy language and threatened them with dire consequences before leaving the premises.

Police said that during the course of the investigation, liquor bottles worth approximately Rs 1.5 lakh have been recovered.

A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including charges relating to house trespass, assault, theft, mischief causing damage, criminal intimidation and acts committed with common intention.

Police have issued a notice to the accused under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.

Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Snehal Malik.
