VASCO
It was a lucky escape for many people working out at the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) gym located in Tilak Maidan in Vasco, after a large portion of the false ceiling collapsed on Tuesday evening.
According to a source, many people were present during the time but luckily no one was hurt in the incident.
“The false ceiling had loosened up for a long time and was hanging dangerously all these days. It finally fell on Tuesday evening all of a sudden while some boys and girls were exercising. Fortunately, it did not fall on them and there were no injuries,” said the source.
The gym is on the top floor at the Tilak Maidan and water has been accumulating above the roof.
“The water seeps in and causes all these issues and sometimes in the rain, we have a lot of areas where the roof is leaking. Sometimes, the water falls from the roof making the floor wet. Our equipment gets rusty and all this makes it almost impossible to exercise in the monsoons,” said the source.
“We want the government to resolve the issue because this is the only government gym in the area. Private gyms are very expensive and not affordable for many and hence, many people depend on this gym for their fitness. The government must take steps to ensure the water leakage in the roof is stopped immediately as it cascades to such incidents,” the source added.
