West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress founder Mamata Banerjee on Friday offered a glimpse of her vision of a ‘new dawn’ for Goa, promising to address unemployment, empower women, revive mining, fishing and tourism sectors, while also promising to take on the BJP in Goa. 

Launching a veiled attack against the BJP, Mamata said forming a government by stealing MLAs cannot give results.  

Addressing her first press conference here since her party made a splash in Goa a few weeks back, Banerjee also sent a strong message to political parties delivering diktats to states from Delhi and calling for a stronger union of states and a robust federal structure.

Mamata also said that the party was still open to alliance talks, while stalling questions as to who the party would field as its chief ministerial face.

“Goa has fishing, tourism, mines, sea, so many things. Problem is now nobody takes care of it. It is neglected now. Neglected, because nobody is there to take care of the people. In real politics, in our democratic setup, whatever is the assurance, given before the elections in the manifesto that needs to be fulfilled. Our credibility is our commitment,” Mamata said.

She also said that the party’s decisions would be made from Goa, after consultation from the senior rung of the West Bengal-based outfit.

“Local party will have a say. Only insiders, we trust insiders. They will make policy, they will decide everything. We can discuss, we can consult, we can counsel, we can help. It is to be decided together,” she said.
