Man arrested for social media post on Parrikar

PANAJI: Posting a fake message on a Facebook account has led to the arrest of a businessman cum politician from Dabolim, especially since the message pertained to the health of CM Manohar Parrikar. 
The Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested Kenneth Silveira for posting false content regarding Parrikar’s health on FB, thereby creating panic among people.  
According to Crime Branch, Silveira had posted false information at 6.33 pm on Tuesday regarding the health of Parrikar, who is undergoing treatment in New York. His post had caused considerable panic with many seeking clarification in the comments section.  
Taking cognizance of the post, the Crime Branch swung into action and arrested Silveira on Wednesday night under Section 505 of IPC on charges of spreading rumours and creating panic among people.  
The accused will be presented before the JMFC at Panaji on Thursday. PI Rajan Nigle is investigating the case under the guidance of Crime Branch SP Karthik Kashyap.  
Incidentally, Silveira had contested unsuccessfully elections to Dabolim constituency in 2017 and in the Panaji by-polls later that year. There is also a case against him in connection with a land deal in Mopa.
