MAPUSA
While residents of Mapusa continue to grapple with the problem of water scarcity, Urban Development Mnister and local MLA Francisco D'Souza alias Babush chose to blame the "inefficient" PWD assistant engineer for the mess and further warned of leading a morcha before the PWD office to resolve the issue.
Locals in some parts of Khorlim, Cunchelim and Carrasvaddo were still struggling as they did not get adequate water supply due to low water pressure.
People living at higher altitudes, on the hills of Khorlim and Carrasvaddo bore the brunt as water simply refused to climb into their houses due to the weak pressure.
"We have been getting water every alternate day and that too for just couple of hours," said Adv Mahesh Rane from Khorlim, exasperated with the PWD's careless attitude.
Another resident of Mapusa said that her taps have been running dry for the last several months.
"It's been months since we have received even a drop of water from the PWD pipeline. Our well has been our saviour," said Laura D'Sa of Angod-Mapusa.
Unable to hide his frustration, Mapusa MLA Francisco D'Souza chose to blame the PWD for failing to properly distribute water in the city.
"There's still water shortage as of today. Either the Assistant Engineer is inefficient...he cannot distribute water properly or there is no enough water coming in," D'Souza said.
D'Souza said for the last 20 years the PWD minister has been promising 24x7 water supply to Goa.
"I told them my patience is over. I will lead a morcha in front of the PWD office to resolve the issue. But I also feel the present AE is inefficient. He cannot manage it," he said.
Sources informed that there was slight improvement in the supply after The Goan highlighted the water issue last month.
The PWD increased supply of water by one MLD to tide over the problem and to quell the pressure from some local councilors last month.
"There's slight improvement, which is not visible. Several areas in Gaunsavaddo, Cunchelim, Carrasvaddo, Khorlim still do not get adequate water. They are still struggling," the local MLA said.
