In a major crackdown on illegal cattle meat transportation, the Ramnagar Police have seized 1,930 kilos of beef worth about Rs 6.75 lakh which was being transported from Belagavi towards Goa early on Monday morning.

Acting on credible intelligence, a police team led by Police Sub-Inspector Mahantesh Naik intercepted a pickup near Ramnagar Church Circle while the vehicle was en route from Shivaji Circle, Ramnagar, towards Goa.

Upon inspection, officers discovered the beef stored in an unhygienic manner, with clear violations of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020.

Police also discovered that seven live male calves were being transported for slaughter, tightly bound and without any valid documentation.

The animals were shifted to a nearby cattle shelter and given veterinary care with assistance from the local animal husbandry department.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Siddappa Balappa Bandur of Vantimuri, Belagavi, and Raju Balu Naik, cleaner and resident of Belagavi. Both have been taken into judicial custody. A criminal case has been registered at Ramdurg Rural Police Station under Crime No. 126/2025 for violations under Sections 4, 5, 7, 12 of the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020; Section 325 of the BNS; and Section 192(A) of the Motor Vehicles Act.

This incident has once again highlighted the ongoing issue of illegal cattle slaughter and meat trafficking across state borders. The Ramnagar Police have stated that further investigation is underway.
