Memorandum calls for not allowing ‘Film City’ in Loliem

Panchayat says not formally informed about project

CANACONA

Amid reports that some residents have raised objections with various government departments about the decision of Loliem Comunidade to allot 250 acres of land on the Bhagwati plateau for a ‘Film City,’ an environmentalist on Friday submitted a memorandum to the newly elected village Sarpanch, requesting not to entertain any proposals for developmental works on the plateau.

Manoj Prabhugaonkar, after submitting the memorandum to Sarpanch Nisha Chari, said, “Procedures have begun in various departments and Loliem communidade to set up a ‘Film City’ in the village (Loliem-Polem) on Bhagwati plateau...Due to the unnecessary requirement of this film city in the village and the need to stop this procedure immediately, I have submitted a representation to our Sarpanch.”

Prabhugaonkar emphasized that people should be informed first before a ‘Film City’ is brought into the village. Without understanding the mood of the villagers/residents, large-scale preparations are being made for the same.

When asked, the newly elected Sarpanch Nisha Chari replied that the panchayat has not received any correspondence on the ESG proposed ‘Film City.’

She emphasized that rumors spread are unfounded, and unless any official communication is received, there’s no point in assuming it will come up in the panchayat meeting.

Panchayat Secretary Sandeep Dessai confirmed that there is no intimation or communication from any authorities regarding the ‘Film City’.

He stated, “We have not received anything from any authorities, nor any application from any individual or organization has been received on ‘Film City.’ We have neither taken any decision nor discussed this issue in panchayat meetings.”

Residents of Loliem have written to Goa Governor, Chief Secretary, and the Administrator of Communidades (South), urging them to reject Loliem Communidade’s decision to grant 250 acres in the village to establish a ‘Film City’.

The residents, led by Dattaprasad Prabhugaonkar, called the Loliem Comminidade resolution taken in its General Body meeting held in October, illegal and called for declaring this resolution null and void.
