In an order issued on Monday, Director of Mines Prasanna Acharya said that the money the owners will have to deposit is equivalent to the extraction cost they have received for the e-auctioned ore.
As per SC order, every mine leaseholder was to be paid a fixed extraction cost for the ore that was confiscated and e-auctioned. “Those owners of such stacks who have collected extraction cost in advance for ore not lifted so far are directed to deposit such extraction cost realized by them,” says the order.
If they fail to do so, the mining companies will be liable to pay interest at 24% pa from July 11 -- for such amounts. The order also asks those mining companies who have already shipped out the ore they have bought but not collected the extraction cost to do so immediately.
This is being done as the department has decided to maintain weekly accounts on e-auctioned ore.
“as per actual movement of cargo and effect various deposits and pay such admissible cost or expenditure etc. on such cargo lifted during the week.”
