Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Wednesday informed the State Legislative Assembly that the Miramar-Dona Paula concrete road is expected to be complete by August-end this year, while stating that work on the road has been delayed due to laying of the sewerage line.He was responding to St Cruz MLA Babush Moserrate who sought to know the need for concretisation. “The decision to concretise the road was taken without taking the local MLA and municipality into confidence. The four-lane 6.7 kms Dona Paula-Bambolim road constructed by the PWD at a cost of `47.91 lakh has maximum amenities like footpath and cycling track. Why is the Miramar-Dona Paula stretch of 2.7 kms is being constructed at a cost of `84.6 crore? Will this be the total expenditure of the project or any further cost will be incurred as the project is already delayed?” he questioned.Responding to Babush, Parsekar informed that the work is being delayed due to the sewerage line which is being laid to cater to the 15,000-odd residential apartments which have come up in the last few years.“Presently two works “ laying of sewerage line and concretisation of road “ are in progress. It is difficult to carry out work due to the water table. The sewerage work can be done during the first half of the year. The government should have thought about it before converting it into a commercial zone. As it was not done, things are getting delayed,” said Parsekar.The discussion went on further with Babush questioning on the relation between commercial zoning and concretisation of road.“Sewerage work was going on first and later the work on the road started. What was the need for the road?” he asked.Parsekar informed that the work order for the road was given in February 2014 and was scheduled to be completed by February 2016. “It is delayed due to the laying of the sewerage network. I would say that by end of August work would be completed,” he said.
