VALPOI: The Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) or monkey fever has spread to other parts of Sattari taluka and seven more cases of KFD have been reported at Community Health Centre (CHC) Valpoi on Monday, taking the number of cases to 42 till date.
According to CHC Valpoi sources, the seven cases of KFD have been reported at Dhave, Karmali-Budruk, Charvane and Karanzol,
Deputy Chief Minister Francis D'Souza visited CHC Valpoi on Monday and interacted with patients and also enquired with the CHC Valpoi officials about the status of KFD cases, which are on the rise in Sattari.
D'Souza informed the CHC officials that vaccinations would be made available in next two days.
He later visited the Mauxi village, the most affected village in Sattari where a maximum number of patients affected by KFD, including the death of a 60-year-old woman, have been reported. Most of the monkey carcasses, which were recovered and disposed off by forest officials, were from Mauxi.
D'Souza has appealed to the villagers to take necessary precaution while visiting forests. He asked them to report immediately to the CHC in case they get similar symptoms of KFD including fever, vomiting and loose motions.
Former MLA Narhari Haldankar, Vishwajeet K Rane, Mauxi sarpanch and panchas and CHC team accompanied D'Souza at Mauxi.
