MAPUSA
Calling the police complaint against him as an attempt to suppress the voice of the people, Mapusa People’s Union (MPU), Secretary Sudesh Tivrekar has urged Mapusa Police to close the complaint against him by the Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Rohan Kavlekar.
“My reaction in the council meeting on January 31 was spontaneous and not entitled for any punitive action
by the councillors or the police, as I have not disrupted the meeting in any way as I immediately walked out from the council hall,” Tivrekar said.
It may be recalled the MMC chairperson had filed a police complaint against Tivrekar for “disturbing” and “interrupting” the proceedings of the council during its meeting on January 31.
Tivrekar said that he had done nothing wrong by saying “demolish illegal structure” and cannot be taken as insult to the sanctity of the MMC.
“On the contrary, the chairperson, vice chairperson and the councillors have insulted the sanctity of MMC by accepting the proposal from Swapnil Shirodkar, a tainted councilor,” he said.
In a letter, Tivrekar has appealed to Mapusa police inspector to immediately close the police complaint filed against him by the chairperson and initiate criminal proceedings against councilors, Swapnil Shirodkar and Rajasingh Rane and chairperson, Rohan Kavlekar under the Prevention of Corruption Act by immediately registering FIR against them and the municipal officials for failing to protect the sanctity of the council.
