Urbanized Navelim constituency comprising villages of Navelim, Telaulim, Aquem-Baixo, Davorlim and Rumdamol seems to be struggling to keep pace with the power requirements “ thanks to the neglect in toning up power infrastructure in these areas over the years.
Just imagine a situation when 106 transformers spread in the villages of Navelim, Telaulim, Aquem-Baixo, Davorlim and Rumdamol are serviced by a 6.3 MVA power transformer, when the actual requirement is a 40 MVA power transformer.
Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro said that the 6.3 MVA power transformer located at the KRC sub-station is fully loaded and unable to cater to the load of areas such as Navelim, Telaulim, and Aquem Baixo of Navelim constituency. He further said there has been no adequate backup in the event of a breakdown of the existing 6.3 MVA transformer which keeps failing repeatedly for the last six to ten 10 years.
Faleiro said that while a new 10KVA power transformer will be formally commissioned by the Power Minister Pandurang Madkaikar on Saturday, he said Navelim constituency will still need an additional 30 MVA power supply to stabilize its current demand. “Hence three more 10 MVA power transformers will be installed in due course behind the Navelim Church at Navelim Sub-station.”
“Subsequently, these planned additional three 10 MVA transformers will adequately cater to the load demand of the constituency not only for the present but also sustain a seamless supply of stable voltage for the next ten years,” he said, adding, “I have planned an additional sub-station behind the Navelim Church to augment the requirement of the additional 30 MVA current”.
Saying that the installation of this transformer has been completed, Faleiro added, “Once this 10MVA transformer is commissioned, the total load capacity of the KRC sub-station will be increased to 16.3 MVA which will give much-needed boost to augment power. Further a part of the load from the Aquem and Nessai sub-stations will be shifted on to the newly installed 10MVA power transformer at KRC sub-station”.
