No shortage of water; just man-made problem: Khaunte

Porvorim
Revcnue Ministe and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte stated that there is no real shortage of water at Porvorim. These days Porvorim has been receiving 15 MLD of water daily from Assonora reservoir. If there is some technical problem at Assnora then Porvorim gets 12 MLD of water. The problem lies in the distribution system of Public Works Division.
Some residents have complained that some of the staff of Public works division (water supply) are demanding money for the release of water. This is serious thing. The work of construction of water treatment plant of 15 MLD has already started behind police quarters in Porvorim.
Once this plant is commissioned Porvorim will get water for 24 hours. As an interim measure he has decided to keep one water tanker near his office at Porvorim. The residents who are facing water problem can register their complaint with his Porvorim office. The water tanker will be sent to their locality said, he Khaunte. He was speaking at Porvorim at an interactive session with the residents of ward numbers 8, 9 and 10 organised by Rising Porvorim.
In regard to garbage problem Khaunte mentioned that this is purely a man made problem. Penha de Franca panchayat has been collecting garbage daily on door to door basis, arrangement has been made to collect garden waste from the door steps and sufficient awareness has been created not to litter garbage by the side of road. Yet people are throwing garbage on the road for which panchayat is helpless. Without corporation of residents it is not possible to achieve the objective of green Porvorim, said Khaunte.
He mentioned that service road has been developed for the
benefit of the residents of Porvorim. However to avoid traffic signal at the entrance of the housing board the vehicles moving towards Panaji have started using the service road. Therefore is has been decide to construct speed breakers at the said traffic signal on both sides to restrict the speed of the vehicles entering the service road from highway.
Khaunte stated that government has decided to construct Revenue Bhavan at Porvorim opposite Cricket academy. This Bhavan will attend to the revenue matter of Calangute, Saligao and Porvorim constituency. The part of this building will be given to Penha de Franca to open their branch for benefit of the residents of plateau, said Khaunte.
He also stated that legal action will be taken against illegal constructions and within next one and half years the broadband connectivity will be provided to every house hold.
Khatau, Sunita Lobo, Shamsunder Naik, Martha Pinto, Ratnakar Amonkar, Snehalata Shirodkar, Rajesh Gaitonde, Allan Rocha, Bhiku Sawant, Vasudev Manerkar, Satish Manerka, Sandeep Dalvi, and Pradeep Kamat participated in this meeting.
