A youth was feared drowned when he, along with a group of other youth, had gone to Calangute beach on Monday morning.
According to a Drishti Marine, the incident took place at about 11.30 am when a group of five youth had ventured into the sea. Two of them were in waist-level water, two others were on the shore and one was on the shoreline, Drishti Marine said.
After a few minutes, a huge wave hit one of the boys in the waist-level water and he was dragged into the sea. Lifeguards Gauresh Gaonkar and Shubham Mapsekar manning the point spotted one victim in trouble and rushed to his aid after relaying a message to the tower.
Lifeguard Gauresh Gaonkar secured the victim with a rescue tube, while lifeguard Shubham Mapsekar assisted him in bringing the victim safely ashore.
When the victim was brought ashore, he informed the lifeguards that one of his friends too was in the water with him when he was hit by the wave.
The lifeguards went back into the sea in search of the missing victim.
A jetski and further search operations were launched in search of the second victim. The search operation went on till 7 pm, but the victim was not traceable. IRB police has been informed about the incident and investigations are underway.
