Upping the ante, Opposition legislators on Tuesday demanded that the government impose a 15-day lockdown and come out with a white paper on the Covid situation in the State.

Eight opposition MLAs held a meeting under the leadership of Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat to review the Covid situation in the state.

The MLAs demanded white paper on Covid management, including availability of oxygen, ventilators, beds and vaccines.

They also demanded that the government impose 15 days total lockdown, with the closure of all borders and permitting entry to only essential commodity-carrying vehicles.

The MLAs also asked the government to form a Task Force to handle Covid management and make a Covid negative certificate or RT-PCR test compulsory for tourists.

Criticizing the government over its failure in handling the Covid situation, Digambar Kamat sought the resignation of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

"BJP government has lost right to continue in power. He must resign,” said Kamat while speaking to media after the meeting.

The members expressed complete displeasure over the attitude and approach of the government in handling the Covid situation.

The government must ensure that enough beds are made available to the rising number of Covid patients. The MLAs also recommended to utilize two floors of the South Goa District Hospital to accommodate the Covid patients.

Other recommendations include super speciality block of GMC must be made operational immediately, take over non-operational private hospitals, acquire hotels, dormitories and hostels etc as Covid Care Centres, re-commission all the facilities which were declared as Covid Care Centres during the first phase of the Covid Pandemic including tourist hostels and other government accommodations.
