Nkeoga Chidi (38), presently residing at Bela Vista, Sangolda, and Iionze Nwato Ambrose (32), residing at Aradi-Parra, both from Lagos-Nigeria, were arrested in a raid and two kilos of Ganja worth `2 lakh was recovered from them.
Addressing a news conference at Porvorim, Deputy Superintendent of Police Nelson Albuquerque said the police had received a tip off that two Nigerian nationals are to visit Savalem-Pilerne on Monday to deliver narcotic consignment to their prospective customers.
PI Jivba Dalvi along with PSI Somnath Mhajik, PSI Sajith Pillai and police constables conducted the raid between 7.30 and 10 pm.
According to Porvorim Police, accused Chidi was found possessing 1.570 grammes of Ganja worth about `1.57 lakh, while Ambrose was found in possession of 0.450 grammes of Ganja worth about `45,000.
“The duo was nabbed and a scooter (GA-03-AD-4963) used in the crime has also been attached,” informed DySP Albuquerque.
He further informed that the police had received information that Nkeoga Chidi was dealing in narcotic substances and after developing information, laid a trap and nabbed the accused. “Chidi was earlier arrested by Calangute Police in 2015 and cocaine was recovered from him. He is currently facing trial in the said case and while on bail by the Narcotic Court, he continued to deal in drugs business.”
DySP Albuquerque further said both the accused have a valid passport and they had come to India on business visas.
Asked why police had only caught Africans with natural drugs, while rarely nabbing other offenders and seizing synthetic drugs, DySP Albuquerque said: “Synthetic drugs is mainly linked to the coastal belt.”
Porvorim is not a market for drugs. Some Indians are also involved in selling drugs and the police is developing information in this regard,” he said.
