Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar on Thursday warned against heavy fines and challans on trucks carrying coal above the top level of the trucks. Salkar was speaking to reporters after inaugurating the works to lay a new sewerage line at Mangor in the presence of Councillor Girish Borker and other residents.
"We have had enough of pollution and these transporters must see the state of Vasco. The trucks have a limit to load and we have seen that many have increased their body height and yet they load above this height."
"This is the main reason for the spillage that ultimately causes pollution and we have asked CM Pramod Sawant for a mechanism where we can immediately understand that trucks are overloaded or have a totally new concept of carrying cargo through containers," said Salkar.
"We will start to initiate strict action on transporters who don't want to abide by the rules. Why should the transporters not abide by the clear-cut instructions laid down by the Goa State Pollution Control Board and the MPA not to load cargo above the upper level of the truck? Why are they giving us the chance to speak because we have no issues if they carry cargo as per the circular."
"The transporters must understand the circular and then talk because Vascokars are not ready to accept pollution anymore. We have had inspections and meetings and finally a circular is also issued and if it is not implemented, then it is the fault of the administration and the police must wake up and start issuing heavy fines and challans."
"The people are frustrated and the only way to get the transportation on line is to be practical and start taking stringent action and issuing heavy fines and we have asked the government for an assurance to act on this issue," said Salkar.
Launches works on new sewerage line in Mangor
VASCO: The Vasco MLA said that plans were afoot to have the entire constituency connected by new sewerage connections.
"We are having plans to connect new sewerage lines to houses on all four sides of Mangor area which was a long pending demand. We will replace old lines with new lines and provide new connections. This work is likely to be completed in a month," he said.
"We are also having new sewerage connections and new pipelines in various parts of Vasco as well by acquiring land and setting up sewage pumping station. The plans to have sewerage networks across entire Vasco constituency and setting up of sewage pumping station will be completed in two years," he added.
