Panaji Police on Friday apprehended a 17-year-old boy, native of Vettilappara-Malappuram in Kerala, near the Royal Foods store in the city. The boy had run away from his home in Kerala on May 14.
The boy's family has been intimated by the police about his location, and his parents are expected to arrive on Saturday to regain his custody. Till then, the boy will be placed under the juvenile detention centre at Apna Ghar.
A patrol team of Panaji police apprehended the boy at around 12.20 pm and he was in possession of Rs 20,000 at the time.
His statement has been recorded in the presence of NGO 'SCAN'. In his statement, the boy has revealed that he left from his home after a spat with his parents on May 14 with Rs 62,000 that he stole from home and travelled by bus to Cochin, Trivandrum and Mangalore, before arriving in Goa. He said he was headed towards Mysore to meet his biological father.
