SALIGAO
Tourism Minister and Saligao MLA Dilip Parulekar has encouraged farmers to preserve their land and increase crop production by adopting innovative methods of cultivation.
Parulekar was speaking after distributing fertilizers to economically weaker farmers from Saligao constituency. The function was organised by the Kissan Morcha of Bhartiya Janata Party.
Speaking further, Parulekar said agriculture is the backbone of Indian economy. “The State government offers subsidies ranging from 75 to 90 per cent to farmers to purchase agricultural machinery, power tillers, tractors, etc. The farmers should avail benefits of these subsidies,” he added.
“Free fertilizers are being distributed to about 1,200 poor farmers from Saligao constituency to encourage them to cultivate their fields,” said Parulekar.
Saligao BJP Mandal president Deepak Rane said Goan farmers are hard working and are not averse to modern and progressive ideas. “Banks provide loans at low rates of interest to purchase agriculture implements, tractors and heavy agricultural machineries, cultivation of crops, etc. The farmers should make Kisan Credit cards through which loan can be obtained as and when needed,” said Rane.
