The Goa police have made a separate appeal to the public, asking everyone to stay calm, alert and act responsibly. Along with banning the sharing of photos or videos showing military sites or personnel, the advisory also lists important do’s and don’ts to help keep people safe and stop the spread of false information.
“Citizens are advised to remain observant of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity or objects immediately to the Goa Police Control Room by dialling 112,” reads the advisory issued by Superintendent of Police (PRO) Rahul Gupta.
The police also warned that some people may try to spread fake news or change information to cause panic or confusion.
“In such a situation, hostile entities may spread fake news or edited content to demoralize or mislead. Be cautious regarding emotional or sensational content. Sharing unconfirmed news, photos, or videos, especially those related to security scenario, can lead to unnecessary panic and the same is punishable under law. Stay updated by relying on official Government handles/websites only. Do not rely on forwarded messages or social media hearsay,” it said.
The advisory clearly bans sharing visuals of military infrastructure or personnel due to national security concerns. “Beware, fraudsters may take advantage of the situation by impersonating defence or government personnel. If citizens come across suspicious social media profiles, fake news, or phishing attempts pretending to be from official agencies, report them immediately to www.cybercrime.gov.in or Cyber helpline 1930,” Gupta said.
Goa police remain on high alert and are working round the clock to keep public order. They have stressed that public support and responsible behaviour are very important right now.
