Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao on Tuesday said he has maintained a neutral stand in the ongoing political developments unfolding in the State, even as NCP national general secretary Praful Patel is believed to have called up the party’s lone MLA in the Goa Legislative Assembly seeking details on the developments.
Churchill told The Goan on Tuesday that he is only watching the ongoing developments since he has decided to remain neutral. “In the past, I had supported the coalition government based on issues. I had never extended any blanket support to the coalition government, but on issues in the interest of the people of Goa,” Churchill added.
He pointed out that Praful Patel had called him up to find out the developments unfolding in the State, adding that the NCP is only watching the situation for the moment.
After the 2017 Assembly election, Churchill had extended support to the coalition government and had to later face a notice from the party for taking the decision without consultation the party leadership.
Sources pointed out that Churchill had initially rallied behind the Congress in a bid to form a Congress-led government soon after the results were out on March 14, 2017, but later maintained distance after it became apparent that the Congress had lost a golden opportunity to form the government by failing to stake claim before the governor.
