Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Wednesday said the centrally funded Town Square Project at Porvorim is progressing as planned and is likely to be opened to the public by August 15.
Chairing a high-level review meeting, Khaunte said work is being carried out on multiple fronts to ensure the project is completed on time despite challenges posed by the monsoon. He said the project includes the beautification and redevelopment of adjoining service roads and parallel stretches around the Town Square area to improve the overall urban landscape.
Officials also reviewed ongoing drainage, culvert and national highway-related works in the area. “Alternative traffic routes, including the road towards Mapusa, are being opened to ease congestion and ensure smooth traffic movement during the execution phase,” he said. Officials from the Tourism Department, Public Works Department, Electricity Department, National Highways, and the Sewerage and Water Supply departments attended the review meeting. The department said coordination between various departments has been strengthened to address monsoon-related challenges and ensure the project is completed within the targeted timeframe.
