MAPUSA

Consumers visiting the Electricity Department in Mapusa for bill payments and other services will now have to go to its new office at the Mapusa Municipal Council’s Commercial Complex near Alankar Theatre.

The department has shifted its Division VI Mapusa office from Vidyut Bhavan at Ansabhat to the second floor of the MMC Commercial Complex at Angod.

The offices of the Executive Engineer, Division VI, and the Assistant Engineers of Sub-Divisions I and III (O&M and Commercial) are now functioning from the new premises.

The office serves consumers in the Mapusa Municipal Council area and the panchayats of Bastora, Pomburpa, Aldona, Ucassaim, Guirim, Verla-Canca, Parra and Arpora-Nagoa.

The relocation was carried out after the old Vidyut Bhavan building was declared structurally unsafe. Officials said the ageing structure had deteriorated, with pieces of concrete falling from the ceiling and posing a safety risk. An assessment by the Engineering College at Farmagudi had flagged the building’s weak condition several years ago.

The department plans to build a permanent office on its land in the Housing Board area of Mapusa.
