Power rebate scam: Mauvin makes his appearance for first time in case

MARGAO
Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho on Friday made his appearance before the High Court-appointed designated Court trying criminal cases against politicians, in the alleged infamous Power rebate scam.

This is the first time that Mauvin has appeared before the South Goa Sessions Court, which has been designated as the Special Court to try criminal cases against politicians since the time all pending cases were transferred to Special judge Irsha Agha.

The Industries Minister had earlier virtually appeared before the Judge on two occasions. Last time round, Judge Agha directed Mauvin to appear before the Court since the accused has not yet made his appearance in the case.

Meanwhile, Judge Agha has dismissed the application filed by one of the accused persons in the Power rebate scam case to direct prosecution to furnish copies of the documents.

While dismissing the application, Judge Agha said none of the accused persons shall be entitled to documents mentioned at Sr. No. 5, 25 and 26 of the list of Muddemal property. “Instead all the accused persons and more specifically Acc.no.7 shall be given an opportunity to inspect the documents listed at Sr.No.5, 25 and 26,” the Judge said, while making it clear that the inspection, if any, should be carried out by the Accused nos. 1 to 7 personally or through their advocates on record between May 2-4 at their convenient time, but during office hours and in the presence of the concerned staff.

Before adjourning the matter to May 5, the Judge has issued fresh summons to the four witnesses for recording of evidence.
