Preliminary report into GMC functioning presented

The initial inquiry report by retired district collector N D Agarwal into the working at GMC has according to sources been placed before the govt.

The initial report into irregularities and lack of services at the state run hospital was submitted to the Health department at the secretariat on Wednesday but has yet to be examined by health secretary.  
Secretary (Health) who is currently in Delhi for a meeting with the central ministry is expected to be returning to the state during the week and will examine the contents of the report upon arrival.   
Earlier this year, Dy CM Francis D’Souza had announced appointment of a one-man inquiry officer to look into complaints of functioning at the GMC.

14 boats, sand seized in separate raids at Pernem

The Captain of Ports, Mines and Geology Department, Deputy Collector Pernem and Pernem Police seized 14 sand-extracting boats and about 300 cubic metres of sand in separate raids at controversial sand extraction sites in Torsem-Pernem.
