CCTV cameras in the precincts of the temple have shown two to three persons entering the temple. All wore raincoats and covered their faces with masks, Mapsua Police informed.
According to the complainant, Kishore Bicholkar,
the burglars first broke a side gate and then gained entry into the temple by breaking a wooden door.
They then gained entry into the sanctum sanctorum by breaking two other latched doors and decamped with silver and gold articles, police said.
The burglary came to light on Thursday morning when the woman in charge of cleaning the temple noticed the doors of the temple open. She informed the temple committee members, who later called the police.
Mapusa Police Inspector Tushar Lotlikar and PSI Yogesh Gadkar rushed to the spot and conducted the Panchanama.
A dog squad and finger expert was also pressed into service. Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo also rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
