Property worth Rs 6 lakh was destroyed in a fire at a house in Mapusa on Thursday noon.
The fire destroyed the roof of the first floor of a residential home at Dangui Colony, Duler. Almost all the goods inside the house went up in smoke.
After receiving a call at around 1.16 pm, two fire tenders rushed to the site and doused the flames.
“Gold ornaments, cash, cupboards, laptop, TV, washing machine, fans, clothes and kitchen items were completely gutted in the fire,” informed Bosco Ferrao, Mapusa Fire Station in charge.
Fire brigade officials said goods worth Rs 6 lakh were destroyed in the fire, while goods of around Rs 6 lakh were saved by the fire personnel.
Short circuit is suspected to be the cause of the blaze. The house belonged to Arun Asolkar.
Fire officers Ashok Parab, D S Sawant, J S Kannolkar, P Ghadi,V H Chawar, P Gawandi, S Rane, Siddesh Naik and D Pai took part in the fire-fighting operation.
