Will the Power department illuminate the Comba ring road to keep unscrupulous elements at bay, with the Margao Municipality descending on the ground to clear the ring road of the tonnes of plastic waste?
PWD officials have pushed the ball in the court of the Electricity department, saying the matter of illumination of the Comba ring road falls in their domain. “Our job was to build the Comba ring road by clearing the residential structures along the alignment. It is now for the Power department to illuminate the stretch,” informed a senior PWD official.
In fact, one of the reasons cited by the Margao Municipal Council for the rampant dumping of waste along the Comba ring road is the absence of illumination along the stretch. “Unscrupulous elements take advantage of the absence of illumination and the isolated part of the stretch to dump waste,” remarked a MMC official.
In fact, people avoid travelling on the Comba ring road late nights for fear of being waylaid in the absence of illumination. Incidentally, while PWD had bulldozed the construction of the Comba ring road on the plea the High Court is monitoring the execution of the road project, the authorities have till date failed to get the stretch illuminated.
