Quepem gets demo on renewable energy

The Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) conducted an orientation programme in Quepem on renewable sources of energies, its benefits and government schemes, to promote the use of natural energies.
The orientation and awareness programme was organised at the deputy collector's office at Quepem and about 100 locals attended the meeting. The main focus was on the usage, benefits of solar energy and other renewable sources of energy. GEDA officials also briefed the locals on solar chulhas and how to make optimum use of renewable sources of energy.
The locals were briefed on solar cooker, solar lamps and solar energy generation. GEDA member secretary Dr Pramod Pathak explained various government schemes and subsidies to the locals.
Quepem Deputy Collector Shankar Goankar emphasised on optimum usage of solar energy and opined that people should take benefit of the schemes available with GEDA.
Chief guest, Prakash Velip, spoke on solar and other renewable sources of energy and encouraged the locals to use it.
Later, craftsman of GEDA, Kalidas Shet, briefed the gathering on the projects and ventures undertaken by GEDA and also informed about solar energy schemes.
GEDA field coordinator Saji Mangaonkar spoke on solar cooker and benefits of thermal energy. A demonstration of solar cooker was given by the officials.
Others present were Quepem Municipal Council Chairperson Filu D'Costa and Deputy Collector Quepem Shankar Gaonkar.
