Even as Ministers in the coalition government had a meeting with the ailing Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar in Delhi on Friday concerning the portfolio distribution, Goa State Congress Committee (GPCC) chief Girish Chodankar called on the Congress President Rahul Gandhi in the national capital around noon on Friday.

While taking stock of the political situation in Goa, the Congress president is believed to have told the Goa Congress president to remain with the people of Goa and stay connected with the grassroot party workers. Rahul Gandhi is believed to have also inquired into the health of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and wished him speedy recovery.

This is the first meeting of Girish with the Congress President Rahul Gandhi after becoming the GPCC president around three months ago. Though Chodankar’s call on the Congress president is termed as a courtesy call, sources said that the GPCC chief briefed in detail the political situation in Goa arising out of the developments unfolding in the coalition government.

The GPCC chief, however, told The Goan that Rahul Gandhi did not discuss anything relating to the Congress forming an alternate government in Goa. He, however, hastened to add that the Congress president was briefed on the prevailing political situation in the State,” he said.

He said Rahul Gandhi inquired with him in respect of Manohar Parrikar’s health and to convey to the Chief Minister his wishes for speedy recovery.

“When Parrikar had gone to the USA for treatment, that time too, Rahul Gandhi had called me over the phone to inquire with the Chief Minister’s health,” he said.

He said Rahul Gandhi’s message to the Goa unit Congress Committee was simple “ be with the people of Goa at all time and stay connected with the Congress grassroot workers.
