Raia gram sabha called off

The Raia gram sabha was called off moments after it started when some residents objected to the holding of the meeting 63 days after it was last adjourned over RP issue in February.

MARGAO

According to some locals, after the Gram Sabha assembled in the morning under the chairmanship of acting Raia sarpanch Sebastiana Souza, members demanded holding of the meeting after 63 days be noted in the records and then the day’s proceedings be conducted. They claimed that this was not heeded to by the chair who called off
the gram sabha.
On the other hand, it was the contention of some other locals that a section of the residents in attendance at the gram sabha did not allow the chair to articulate her point of view after which the gram sabha was called off.
According to the sarpanch Sebastiana, she was scheduled to take up the proposals listed in the agenda when the meet was disturbed by a section of the locals as a result of which she could not articulate her viewpoint.
She claimed it was this reason which led to her calling off the gram sabha.
