Raia takes on power dept at bulb supply function

Raia takes on power dept at bulb supply function

A group of Raia residents on Friday made known their grievances with the power department during the LED bulb distribution in the village, even as they finally succeeded in forcing the Power department to set up a facility for the consumers to pay their electricity bills in the village itself.

Before the commencement of the function, the group of residents led by Anthony Fernandes were not in favour of the local MLA Reginald Lourenco sharing the dais with the South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar in protest against the treatment meted out to Raia village by the power department.

Better sense finally prevailed and Reginald along with the MP took the dais, but not before the residents told Sawaikar that the residents were not intimated about the function if the same was organized by the village panchayat.

Meanwhile, Anthony Fernandes said the power department has put up a notice on the Panchayat ghar stating that payment of electricity bills will be accepted at the Shiroda Urban Cooperative Credit Society, Santemol-Raia branch with effect from July 15.

He said that the people of Raia were forced to travel all the way to the Power House at Aquem-Margao to pay the bills for want of a facility in the village after the designated refused to accept cash payments since the beginning of the new financial year.
